Jnane Tamsna , you could call it the creation of Meryanne Loum-Martin. BRUNCH BY THE POOL The Essaouira top 5

There are plenty of reasons to stay more than a day in Essaouira. There is much more to discover than the Medina, the harbour and the beach boulevard. Ask any one living here and they come up with a liiiist that could fill your month of holiday with ease.
But, how do we, the locals (or pretend to be locals) like to spend a day when we are off?

5 TRENDS THAT ROCK MARRAKECH

Marrakech is becoming more and more an international metropolis to be reckoned.

A Metropolis influenced by international trends that local youngsters embrace and enjoy together with expats and tourists.

On the other hand, we are happy to notice new trends that re-enforce and re-define the Moroccan heritage. The skills and the things that we all love about Moroccan culture.

Here are the 5 new hypes we think are here to stay!

1) bye bye colour overload hello minimalism.

Marrakech,Marrakesh, trending

LRNCE  Ethnic minimalism we love

No, don't panic! We're not saying Marrakesh is turning into some cool and all white, Nordic kind of town, but we do notice these last months more and more that fashion found a Moroccan answer to the

COS

style.

Simple, architectural lines combined with ethnic details.

When brands like

Max & Jan

Marrakech have an all white, simple and sleek line in their Summer collection I think we have to consider this trend as a stayer and we love it.

Not everyone wants to wear the colours and Ibiza style but almost every man and women falls head over heals for the comfy loose fit of Moroccan Djellabah's, Caftans and harem pants.

2) The all time favourite Barbershop gets pimped.

Marrakech,Marrakesh, trending

Thr stylish Barber in Guéliz next to Vert Midi.

When we mentioned to an investor 3 years ago the potential we saw in redefining the old art of 'il barbieri' he had a good laugh.  I would like to see his face now, when one stylish Barber/beard shop after the other is opening up.  Totally our style and totally on trend. After all who does not like a well trimmed beard or moustache?

3) Middle East Money and luxury hotel chains.

After the opening of the Mandarin Oriental in 2015 it's waiting for the Hyatt.

But... we have our sources and we know that the Arab world is investing in Marrakech.

Oil money for some brand new lifestyle concept hotels. The top of the Arab world will soon have their own favourite spots in and around Marrakech to reside.

4) Tagine version 2.0

Marrakech,Marrakesh, trending

This place will be opening in Fall and we have high expectations :) on a new approach on Moroccan cuisine

Marrakech is turning green, Eco, bio. Health stores, vegetarian lunch spots that go beyond taking the meat out of your plate, are becoming a fast growing range of restaurants, Our favourite without any doubt is Vert-Midi. They do not claim to be organic.

But oh, what a treat!

Their juices are to die for and their salad concept is unique in Marrakech.  You select your own ingredients among a list of products...

Very good food, very democratic in price and a real stayer we hope!

BUT...what's the title about! Tagine 2.0!

Well...that's another great concept that's finally making a grand entrance. After some creative takes by Terrace des Epices, Nomad, Kaowa.....on my all time favourite, the Moroccan Salad,  the concept of cooking Moroccan with a twist seems to become mainstream and again! WE LOVE.

5) Bye Sidi Ghanem we love shopping Guéliz.

Marrakech,Marrakesh, trending

Although

Héritage Berbère

recently opened a luxury shopping experience in Sidi Ghanem, we prefer shopping them in the Medina.

When you think shopping, you think souks. Medina. Hustle and bustle.

And yes, we agree. But Marrakech always had alternatives. Call it the way out for the locals. The secrets that we not easily shared with outsiders.

One of these places was Sidi Ghanem. The industrial era where hip designers and local constructors gather side by side with transport firms and tire companies. It was an adventure and you always came back with a new discovery.

Well, many still say oh and waw about Sidi Ghanem but I don't. The last year I love to discover new trendy shops both in Gueliz and yes!!...in the Medina.

Guéliz is well on its way back to attract young international designers, art galleries and last but not least local creators.

More things that are moving and ready to become a trend in the red city?

Stay tuned!

A DAY OUT AT THE OURIKA ROUTE

Marrakech, Day out, Ourika, Coco-Morocco, Ferme Berbere

Jong, hipster proof en trendy is the Source.

Girls, raise your hand if you're in for some colour!

Make that statement with one of these treasures from the souks. As a product sourcer I often get people sending me pictures on what they want. Often I have to disappoint them while I can see it's no Moroccan patterns or finishing details. So...to show you what you DO can expect here, I made this little moodboard to show and inspire you.

Hop on over to

And if you get inspired....drop us a line :) using our new pop up frame to make it easyyyyyyy.

MARRAKECH - JARDIN SECRET

In a land of a 1001 nights, flying carpets and magic lamps, Ali Baba and his thieves, it is not surprising that somewhere in the Medina another secret pops up now and again ...

Le Jardin Secret - The Secret Garden

I'm a fan of old buildings, ancient sites, ancient techniques ... since my high school when I visited each summer archaeological sites and more actively went to camp.

Discovering in my backyard in Marrakech, this piece of craftsmanship got me hooked.

For once there was meticulously filmed from the beginning, which resulted in a great tribute to the people and their dedication during this phenomenal project.

To me, the film was the thread that was crucial to fully understand the project and to approach it with even more respect.

The architectural history of the city can be preserved only once, and that's when one has to make the choice must between preservation or destruction.

The choice of "Le Jardin Secret" was a tough decision which has undoubtetly costed a lot of money and a lot of time.  The added value in the Medina can not be measured in money.

Proud of my adopted city, proud of Morocco!

Until we meet over a glass of mint tea

BELGIAN BIO FARM AND GUESTHOUSE = KIDS HOLIDAY!

Going to a farm, being with animals, it brings out the kid in me!

And that was what happened last Sunday when I was surrounded by pigs, cows, chickens, goats, doves, donkeys, horses, ducks....amongst 2 ha of pomegranates and olive trees. I felt like when I was living at the countryside in Flanders. Only, this time it was at an altitude of 1300m outside Marrakesh with in front the majestic High Atlas peaks of around 4000m. Swimming pool, a gorgeous lunch with homegrown vegetables everything biological.
I can assure you...you don't have to have kids to enjoy all of this. But when you do have, they feel in heaven. Especially with all the workshops going on. From mud building to henna painting and donkey rides.

SUPER DEAL IN THE MARRAKECH MEDINA

I'm a little upset as I write this article because I just saw the trailer of one of these sensation seeking
programs on Belgian TV about Marrakech.
'Als je een hond wil slaan vind je altijd wel een stok' is an expression in Dutch. If you want to beat a dog you will always find something to do so.
Morocco is a different but beautiful country, and YES, people sometimes ask crazy prices and make up stories that you want to believe, but there is no one who forces you to buy nor pay nor close the deal for anything!
And if you DO end up buying, paying, regretting things, than look and go within yourself and ask yourself why you closed the deal at all!
We Belgian expats are making a short film and introduction to Marrakech the way we see it...soon in
Jackisback in Roeselare.
If you want to see another view on Marrakech and Morocco go here

So let me distract myself and you with some Belgian beauty to get in balance again :)!
Riad Safa, in the Moukef area. Now in Dutch hands and and ran as a guesthouse.
When I entered the house I felt the Belgian vibe, don't ask me why, but it is as if the mainly Flemish
architecture is based on this contemporary mix of raw and natural wood combined with subtle tones of white, black and earth colours. Mix all this with a 'no concession' attitude of the new owners and you have a place where style, comfort and relaxation are among the top priorities. I could also mention the Hammam and the massage zone at the roof. The Jacuzzi with the view over the Atlas mountains. The fantastic fish tagine and more that can be prepared for you for dinner....but GO AND DISCOVER yourself and do not let ONE be it maybe convincing tv program scare you off. WE are here to help you with whatever problem that might come your way!
Come and enjoy Morocco and Marrakech as it is. A wonderful inspiring place where you will get to know yourself a little more...

HOW WISHES DO COME TRUE IN MOROCCO...

FOR SALE AT ONE HOUR DRIVE FROM MARRAKECH TO ASNI...
One month ago, I was travelling between Marrakech and Taroudant. Passing Asni with a quick visit at Kasbah Tamadot where the setting of the Kasbah was simply impressive. The next day while passing Asni we suddenly got sight at the Barrage Ouirgane in the most wonderful blue colour, water ever revealed to me. I was hypnotised and the only thing I could think of was to be in a hotel with a view like this.....

Little did I know...

Until I arrived at this wonderful spot tucked away in the lower hills of the High Atlas mountains Yesterday....There it was, my dream under construction. Sleek cubistic architecture where traditional Moroccan techniques, design and materials are being brought together in a totally contemporary mix. Impressing me most was the vision from the designer. Inside and outside reinforce each other with amazing views throughout the hotel, the infinity pool and the panoramic suites. The terrace is definitely the most amazing place I have been on for a long time. It feels like floating somewhere in the sky between the hills with backdrops of the High Atlas and the Barrage Ouirgane in the valley.
But there is much more to it!
13 villa's built in the same contemporary style, designed to harmonise with both the hotel and surrounding nature.
Private plots that can use the facilities of the hotel.
The last 3 villa's, two 2-rooms and a very exclusive 3 room will now come on the market and we are lucky enough to be able to offer them to you! 10 villa's are already purchased by an international public that saw the  potential already from the very beginning. They will undoubtedly see there investment increase when the hotel will open for public early 2016.
These last three villas are on the market as of £329,000 with 148m2 on ground level, 1360m2 plot Full ownership, full property management available a.o. !
More info HERE

Why we believe in this concept:
Everything starts with a vision. This vision is about sustainability and durable entrepreneurship.
We at Coco-Morocco love projects like this because creating a win-win situation is what it is all about when starting a project in a protected area.
Preserving the balance between environment and the impact it has to do well for the locals is an ongoing process, one that the developers are willing to take, to continue with and to expand.

KASBAH PROPERTY WITH ITALIAN FLAIR

FOR SALE IN 'THE' UPCOMING AREA OF MARRAKECH...
We were asked to be partners in the sell of this beautiful authentic Riad in the Kasbah of Marrakech.
Arabic, Andalusian and Jewish details mingle in what can be considered as one of the few authentic houses in this style so well preserved....
The Italian owners were in love with the story of the place, the mix of history that it carries within.
The location is TOP with the terrace overlooking the old (UNESCO HERITAGE) walls of the El Badi Palace and in a quiet alley with only a 10 minutes walk to Place Jemaa El Fna and easy access for cars.

My +++
- I love the 8 spacious rooms where even the smaller ones feel like huge compared to the average Medina riad.
- there are 2 patio's , a lush garden patio with pool and a covered patio that centers the winter rooms.
- two of the suites have their own private terrace.
- the building has a douria (a house within) with a separate entrance and this puts huge potential to the use of the building! Think service entrance, deliveries, cooking classes, restaurant...The area is in need of good restaurants. the Kasbah is starting to boom with quality guesthouses but the restaurant scene is poor yet!
My ---
- Personally I think some new added style elements are ready to take away. It are no structural works but a facelift rather then make-over.
- the covered patio takes, due to the way it is build more light then necessary. something I would reconsider.
But having that said I think this place is worth a serious thought when you are thinking Medina Real Estate in Marrakech!

A TOUCH OF AFRICA IN MARRAKESH: DAR BINEBINE

You know I like riads with a personal stylish touch. Enthusiastic owners who go all the way in turning their Medina homes into an expression of beauty, good taste, lush innergardens and keeping up with the client's personal needs.
It was on one of my private tours, with a small group of clients, I discovered Dar BineBine. Located in the enjoyable Doukkala area of Marrakesh, Derb Jdid, Binebine offers all of this and more.
A beautiful courtyard
Passion for art
Creative little shop with creations of local artists inspired by the owner
Superb Breakfast with lots of fruit and Moroccan specialities
Great rooms beautiful decorated and the perfect mattress!

If I could give a tip for improvement (there always is)...
There is much more potential in the rooftop terrace guys! Make it a project :)

ECO AT A LUXURY LEVEL

Do you love Safari style as a fashion project? Does the film 'Out of Africa" make you almost want to grasp your straw hat?

But does the thought of eco-resort and sleeping in some kind of wilderness makes you opt for: 'lets try that next year' ...

I have some good news for you, and it is called

LA PAUSE

.

At about 30 kilometres Southwest of Marrakech, in a beautiful desolate area surrounded by nature and not that far from

Toubkal National Park

in what once was called the « Désert Marrakchi », (the Marrakech desert). It is a place for me-time, meditation and joy. When I want to escape Marrakech for a day, that is the direction we take!

It's an area still unspoiled with no 'well known' tourist attractions but that is all you want . peace, serenity and comfort....and a million stars at night!
