Ik kan jullie zo 5 redenen geven om je luie gat richting Marrakech te bewegen ..hm.

1) omdat het november is en een straaltje Marokkaanse warme zon heel erg welkom is.

2) omdat je eigenlijk nooit een reden nodig hebt om te reizen!

3) En hallooo, het is hier wel AFRIKA hé!

4) het exotische karakter valt absoluut niet te onderschatten...

5)Het zou wel eens goedkoper en veel meer fun kunnen zijn om dat ticket te boeken en te onderhandelen in de soeks, dan dure wijn te drinken in je luie zetel bij de haard terwijl je online zit te kopen.

I can give you five good reasons to get your lazy but on a plane to Marrakech.

1) because it's November and you could do with some sun.

2) because there is always a reason to travel

3) because héj! THIS IS AFRICA. not just any place on earth!

4) it's exotic beyond imagination

5) it might be cheaper to book a trip and get the fun on bargaining out here then to order and ship in your lazy corner in front of the fireplace.

when it has a ponpon, it's IN. It does not matter. After the sequins, some clever Moroccan came one sunny day with a ponpon and voilà (pardon my french) EVERYTHING has a ponpon nowadays. However, keep it stylish and go for a nice wool blanket with ponpons. After all you will return to the bitter cold when you get back on that plane don't you?

- Say hello to the IT shoe*. We soooo love the hairy scary ones. I swear, you might think they run off by themselves. COOL!! (and warm too 😚)

- And why don't we dare to go for some colour? Be honest, running around here in Marrakech will get you at a critical point of colour overload. But, you will NOT be able to resist it. You will come home in your gray white wood Nordic inspired home and OMG there you are with this flashy pink and green basket. I know the feeling. You will first want to hide it from your friends. But then, you realise it looks STUNNING. Well done! you passed your comfort zone!!

Dit gedeelte van de Medina is aan een merkwaardige opkomst begonnen. Het ene trendy merk na het andere begint hier met originele winkeltjes waar je de meest authentieke spullen en souveniers kan vinden. Een andere favoriet is de Italiaanse juwelier.

Maridadi is het 'kindje' van Allison Jones, die eigen ontwerpen mengt met verkoopbare spullen die ze mee neemt van op haar reizen. Het is moeilijk om je niet te laten verleiden door al die leuke portemoneetjes, kleedjes en hebbedingen.

Own design mixed with items she sources on her travels. It's hard to leave without buying something. We did, but we will be returning soon for one of these lovely fishes 😉

Als de Souks van Marrakech je letterlijk en figuurlijk te heet worden dan is er voor het figuurlijke deel nu een geweldige oplossing! Ze heet

Sahar

en ze heeft me alweer een andere kant van de Red City laten ontdekken. Sahar verhuisde vanuit de States naar Marrakech en zoals met velen, het was liefde op het eerste gezicht.

Al vlug erfde ze ook de passie voor 'junken' van de plaatselijke bevolking. Oude versleten en afgeleefde gebruiks artikelen omvormen tot iets helemaal anders. De Marakshi's verwezen haar door naar de lokale buurt en de vlooienmarkt van Bab El Khemis. Daar ging een grot van ali Baba voor haar open.

Vorige week, in een verzengende hitte ging ik met haar op pad! Ik wist niet wat ik zag. Alles wat er in de souks wordt aangeboden en nog veel meer. Prachtige oude antieke deuren

. Art Deco meubelen van oude hotels in Casablanca. Vintage vijftiger jaren lampen, tafels, stoelen. Maar ook aardewerk, interieur spullen, korven....

Het grote verschil met de toeristen souks?

Ja, je raadt het al. De sfeer!

De gemoedelijkheid van de hele buurt. Het gevoel dat je op je gemak alles kan bekijken en je niet verplicht moet voelen om iets te kopen.

Sahar is ondertussen een echte 'connaisseur' geworden.

Op afspraak

geeft ze een tour met haar favoriete adresjes. Een ECHTE aanrader om het andere soukgevoel te ontdekken!

Het onderhandelen, daar ontkom je helaas niet aan, maar dat, is de ziel van het kopen en verkopen hier in Marokko!

Ever felt the heat shopping the Marrakech' souks was too hard to bare? I mean the heat of the pushy shop assistants and their 'must buy' attitude. Well, there happens to be a magical solution to it and her name is

Sahar is a real Junker, turning trash into unique pieces of ...anything you want. A passion that grew on her after she had moved to Marrakech from the States.

In her search for these one of a kind trash items, some locals told her about the flea market and the local souk area of Bab El Khemis.

This was like discovering the Treasure room of Ali Baba.

Anything you could dream of and lots more were there in a calm and serene atmosphere. No need to run away from those pushy shop assistants. It became her weekly addiction and she started to map the most important and to her most valued shops.

Last weekend was all about adventures en hilarious situations around Essaouira. From having two huge Cane Corso dogs on our lap to ending up with the whole gang, dogs included, in a Berber wedding somewhere in the middle of no-where! Lost!... and not really invited...

And the best part ....was discovering the most beautiful, warm and elegant Boutique hotel around Essaouira I visited so far!

Het eerste gesprek met het team van nasire ging over koeien. Niet koetjes en kalfjes, maar letterlijk koeien. Ze waren Marokko aan het doorkruisen om de fijnste kwaliteit leder te vinden. Sinds deze eerste ontmoeting zijn er veel maanden verstreken en ongetwijfeld nog meer retours Zurich Marrakech.

The first time we met the team from nasire, we were talking cows. Yes, literally cows. They were in startup and traveling Morocco to find the finest quality leather for their bags. Since then many months have gone and lots of travels have been made.

In het hele proces, de weg naar het finale product stonden 2 dingen voorop. Kwaliteit en individualiteit. Vanaf het eerste prototype ware wij 'big fan' van de brute luxe die de tas uitstraalde. Sterke zuivere lijnen gecombineerd met doordachte details.

'Pascale Met les Voiles

'.

Een viertal jaar geleden hield Luikse Pascale Soyeur het voor bekeken in België. Ze runde er sinds 25 jaar een succesvol interieur decoratie bedrijf en linnen was de stof waarin Pascale zich volledig kon uitleven. De roep van Afrika waar ze van kinds af aan nauwe banden mee had was te sterk. Een dappere stap en het avontuur begon.

Recycleren is een van haar passies en je vindt haar dan ook steevast op de Joutillia ( de wekelijkse vlooienmarkt) op zoek naar herbruikbare stoffen en oude jeans. In de lokale souks worden de versleten plastic meelzakken en de jute koffiebonen zakken afgenomen. Alles om te herbruiken in haar ontwerpen.

A SUMMER IN ARTIST KATHY LUCOFF GODIN"S HOUSE

I feel blessed! My dear friend, art collector and artist Kathy Godin asked me to stay in her house in Essaouira to take care of her two lovely dogs. I couldn't have thought of a nicer place then this one to spend part of my summer. But more is there to come, On Wednesday another good friend in Marrakech, Synnove Holte and I are going to make a road trip to the Sahara by public transport. I love this idea and I am sure it will inspire me for some hilarious, yet authentic and pure moments to share with you. We are checking out on different hotels and resorts for my selection on yoga venues and for my tours. At the same time we are going to check up on the date-farm Synnove is supporting in Merzouga.
