SHIPPING FROM MARRAKECH

Getting that stuff home….

Getting that stuff home….

Before we hit town with our clients, we often get questions about payment options and shipping.
Here some guidelines on how to purchase in Marrakech and get it home!

PAYING:

  • there are plenty of ATM’s all over town, even in the medina. Make sure you set your card to ‘world’ before leaving!

  • most major stores (think rugs, lamps, interior, accept credit cards. Note that there are NOT that many that accept American Express!

  • most stores also accept Euro’s.

  • daily withdrawel is for most cards 5000 MAD (Moroccan Dirham) However, you can take out max 2000 at once. After this you have to repeat to get a total of 5000.

SHIPPING:

  • for smaller purchases it’s wise to look into your max luggage to take with you. Often it’s cheaper to buy a simple extra suitcase and take fragile items as hand luggage.

  • when you ship large items, most stores can handle shipping. Be ware that fragile items will have to packed in certified wooden boxes. Always think before you buy if the item will still be a bargain after adding shipping and handling costs!

  • Marrakech offers express shipping door to door with DHL, FEDEX, Chronopost, Poste Maroc.

  • with Poste Maroc you can also choose for normal shipping which makes it less expensive.

  • depending on where the goods need to be sent, how much you buy…it might be an idea to combine goods from different shops.

  • the better deals you get on items, the less experienced the merchant tends to be in shipping. Be patient and accept this. You will either have to figure it out yourself or you might have to buy it at a higher price but without having to bother about the shipping.

In all cases, realise that Marrakech is not Europe, nor the US. People are still learning and patience in this is a virtue. After all, here we don’t have a watch but we have time.

If a merchant doesn’t know the price on shipping, it’s a good idea to bring in your skills and figure it out together. That is, if you are willing to sacrifice some of your time on this.
