A TOUCH OF MOROCCO

Black & white with some Moroccan flair.
That comes pretty close
when looking at this timeless interior project of Jessica Helgerson.
First of all I personally love the style of the condo in Portland. What I love about the renovation, what I ALWAYS consider successful renovations, is when it reinforces the character of the old without becoming retro. A particular part is the use of the Moroccan cement tiles. It is so nice to see that a pattern that has been around for ages can make a place funky all over.
Well done!

MARRAKESH - DAR DONAB, A WEEKEND GET-AWAY

Do you sometimes want to live above your budget?
Me too :)

But I have found quite a comfortable solution to it!
Weekend get-aways. Pick a spot, go there and spend some hours, half a day or maybe you might be even creative enough to turn it into a whole day!
So let me  share with you my last week get-away spending some Sunday hours at the wonderful inner garden by the pool of the Donab Palace in Marrakesh. When you are in Marrakesh, spending some hours at Donab is enough as the whole DAR BACHA area is asking to get discovered. It is in a total contrast with the hustle and bustle of the souks.
Trendy artistic little shops, clean and oh so quite streets, lovely guest houses and very accessible by car.
In my first post I want to share the nice green inner garden. So easy it is to combine some trees with lots of pottery. Using mirrors on the main axes and different sizes on pots and plants creates depth into the garden. Notice also that the difference in the color of the green enforces this depth. Overall the maximum planting area was nowhere more the 1,20 m but you feel it is overwhelming and with all the birds nesting it is a real oasis.

My program for tomorrow involves a beach picnic so that I will finally get some tan after living here for 2 years :). Less impressive but very relaxing!

Enjoy your weekend too and keep me posted on the creative things you come up with!

MEET THE NEW TRAVELER: WHEN LUXURY SHIFTS TO ORIGINAL

Do you believe that a place can share an instant feel-good vibe?

Then visiting Auberge de Tangaro in Essaouira with a hill view on the Atlantic might just be something for you! I spent some hours there yesterday afternoon because we are going to redesign a part of the interior and I thought sharing the new funky lunch / cocktail / event lounge with you!  Remember Le Tangaro has a unique restaurant / art gallery where you can dine at the light of dozens of candles as the restaurant is kept untouched and without electricity...
This fits in the core believe of Tangaro where today's sophisticated travellers are looking for the truth of their individual needs, which is relaxing from their daily life and just being themselves.
People are not seeking for luxury in a traditional definition anymore. The word luxury is overused and talk of luxury has become cheap.
People have had enough of pretentious unreasonable demands and want in travel as in live go back to 'less is more'
time to re-invent ...and build a community of travellers in stead of tourists.

MOROCCAN FOUNTAINS: A TOUCH OF FRESHNESS ON HOT DAYS

So it's here. The first heatwave for this year is rolling all over Morocco.

A good time to look a little closer on what we can do to get some refreshment.
Water fountains are a decorative way to bring the sound of water into a riad. Almost instantly temperature seem to get down by some degrees when you here this. Seeing the birds taking a bath in it in the early morning or the late evening is better then watching TV.
Enjoy, dream away and don't let the heatwave get you!
